CHALPÔ
This is a Liquid to air exchanger for use with the BiomekÔ
FX Liquid handler. Temperature range is 0* to 65°
C. This device is compatible with all Acme-Automation thermal adapters. It
works directly with 96 and 384 well flat bottom plates. The device
integrates into the Beckman Coulter Static ALP #719357
Maximum temperature = 65° C ( Osha Limit,
tested to 90° C)
Minimum temperature = -0° C ( limited by
chiller low limit)
Minimum operating temperature is dependent on the recirculating
refrigerator lower capability.
Installation:
 Decide
what 2 ports you will use for the port fittings (either narrow or wide
end). Cut 5 pieces ~25mm long of Teflon tape. Dress the tape in a
clockwise rotation around the 2 port fitting’s threads and the 3 plug’s
threads. Place the ‘CHALP’ up-side down (figure 2.) Use the 1/16"
wrench to insert the set screws so they protrude slightly from the other
side. Stack a flat washer ,spring and another flat washer onto each
of the 6-32 hex head screws. Place the Biomek FX Static ALP Up-side down.
Align the CHALP with the 4 holes in the bottom of the ALP. Insert and
tighten all 4 screw/washer/Spring/Washers. Upright the ALP/CHALP assembly.
You can now adjust the 3 set screws in or out for proper bottom contact on
various types of labware. Mount the ALP on the FX. . The recirculating
chiller connections are as follows: Cut the ¼ " tubing and connect
between the device and the Recirculator. Flow direction is not critical.
Condensate will build up on the tubing, route accordingly. Typically, 3 or
more units can be connected together in parallel on one recirculator.
Operation:
recirculating refrigerator bath.
Use a maximum of 60% glycol mixture in the recirculator reservoir.
Allow the recirculator to reach the setpoint temperature, ~30 minutes for
the coldest setting. It is best to measure the temperature right at the
plate with a non-contact thermometer if the control is critical. It Is
best if the unit does not remain on at less than freezing temperatures for
periods greater than 24 hours, as frost will build up and may affect plate
positioning. If you encounter any difficulty with this integration
