| PAK-ICEÔ
This is a Chillable holder for the Biomek 2000 modular reservoir
holders. In addition it can also be used to cool unskirted PCR plates with
the optional gasket. This device can be used with various automated liquid
handlers and benchtop laboratory use. It will keep the contents chilled
for more than 2 hours at room temperature.
Automated Use:
Define the PAK-ICE using the respective software utilities for your
Liquid handler.
To do this increase the definition height Z + 32.8 mm.
BiomekÔ 2000:
Modular reservoirs On
the Biomek the labware holder definition can be modified. In Edit
/Devices/ select and copy a labware holder definition. Name it "PAK-ICEÔ
Holder". Edit this new device by entering 32.8mm in the Z Offset
height under the section ‘labware position difference’ . Use this
definition under the Modular reservoir holder object.
PCR Plate use Although not
designed for plate use unskirted PCR plates have been adapted with the
addition of weather stripping pieces added about the inside edge. Once
done determine the labware holder definition. Place the PCR plate in a
standard labware holder measure from the top of the plate to the stainless
steel deck, and record this value(pcrtop). Then place the same plate in
the ICE-PAK and measure the same distance. (paktop) subtract the (paktop)
– (pcrtop) = new Z offset for the device holder name it PCRholder. Use
this definition under this type of pcr plate additional definitions can be
created for other plates as needed.
Dimensions:
PAK-ICE Height: ………..69.96 mm
Positions as a titer format plate at the base.
Operation:
Place the gel pak or paks into the PAK-ICE and refrigerate for 24 hours.
It is best if the unskirted plate or modules are placed in the freezer as
well to give the gel pak shape. The Beckman foil seals work great to seal
reagent modules in place and then the pipette tips will puncture them when
needed the reduces any chance of condensate forming and diluting small
volumes of material. Gel pak type may vary.
